Christmas Scripture Reading – Day 10

10 Dec

Diet Dr. Pepper Update: Friday was a milestone day – 40 days without Diet Dr. Pepper. Woohoo!!! :) I’m far enough into this that I don’t think about it everyday, but I still crave it every now and then. I’m stunned that I made it this far. Ha!

We are reading through the 25-Day Christmas Scripture Reading Plan. Today is Day 10 and I love what these verses represent. Just like yesterday, you’ll be hopping from book to book, but you’ll discover something wonderful in doing so.

Around 700 B.C., Isaiah prophesied Jesus’ birth:

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. – Isaiah 7:14

And then the actual event took place and was recorded in the book of Matthew:

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.” – Matthew 1:22 – 23

Approximately 700 years passed between the prophecy and Mary giving birth to Jesus. 700 years! This says so many things to me, but specifically:

God will do what He says He will do – no matter how much time has passed.

If you have been praying for someone or something for years and years, now is not the time to give up. The world waited 700 years for Jesus to be born. The person (Isaiah) who prophesied his birth wasn’t even alive when the prophecy was fulfilled. But he believed that it was true and was confident that God would be true to His Word whether he was alive to see it or not.

Our job is not to grow weary. Keep praying, keep trying, keep believing, keep trusting. Don’t give up. Have faith.

So glad you are on this journey with me!
