Preparing Our Hearts for Christmas

27 Nov

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, the natural inclination is to turn our minds to Christmas. With all of the hustle & bustle, shopping, Christmas parties, planning, baking, gift-wrapping, cooking, and decorating – it’s easy to lose sight of what (or rather, who) we are celebrating. For those of us who believe, it is the birth of our Savior that should be the center of our focus. Everything else comes second.

In order to prepare my heart for Christmas this year, I’m going to follow a Christmas Bible Reading plan for 25 days and I’m hoping you might want to join me! Starting on Saturday, December 1 and finishing on Christmas Day, there will be short passages to read each day. Each scripture reference, below, is linked to the NIV passage at Bible Gateway, so if you want to, you can just click the link and read it right here. Or you can print this page and keep it near your Bible.

If you prefer, you can download the YouVersion app on your phone and read the plan there.

{I found this particular plan in numerous places, so I’m not sure who should get credit for coming up with the original version (maybe, but I know this – it wasn’t me. :)}

Each day’s reading is not super long. Some days, it’s only one verse. So it is very doable if you are worried about time-commitment. You can do this! WE can do this! And when we are done, our hearts will be truly prepared to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

    Rachel, you are so right. Every year it seems that we rush through Thanksgiving in order to get to Christmas. I wish we could all slow down a bit and enjoy each season, each celebration, giving it its due time.
    I am very familiar with YouVersion and the reading plan sounds great! Thank you for mapping it out for us; I think this will hep me get organized!

    Hope you are well, dear one,
